Starts with bright aromas of grapefruit and stone fruits. Medium bodied with a soft acidity, but still racy, even spicy. Minerals, lime and a tight core of tangerines on the palate. More citrus throughout the mouthwatering finish.

In Willamette the conditions cause riper fruit flavors such as those in Friuli with its golden and red apples but in Oregon the fruit can push to near tropical fruit levels of ripeness with pineapple and papaya flavors peeking through. In some very good examples we can even detect a hint of that baking spice usually expressed only in the best wines of Alsace, France. In addition to the riper fruit provided by nature, winemakers have a slightly different slant when working with Willamette fruit by aging on the lees (dead yeast cells) and leaving a little more residual sugar for a richer mouthfeel.
The 2007 Elk Cove Vineyards Pinot Gris starts out with sweet and unctuous aromatics; pineapple and a touch of honeysuckle, while also giving crispness on the palate with citrus and grapefruit.
